A Grown-Up Girls’ Getaway: Vegas Fun at The Westgate
A Grown-Up Girls’ Getaway at The Westgate Las Vegas
For women 40-plus who want to forget about the problems of the world and get more than just busy nights and crowded casinos, The Westgate Hotel in Las Vegas feels like a throwback with all the modern perks. It offers a vintage-Vegas vibe (think classic neon, sparkly chandeliers and that legendary Elvis connection— yes, Elvis Presley performed over 600 sold out shows at the Westgate, formerly known as the International Hotel). A good way to describe a stay at the Westgate Hotel is nostalgia without feeling dated.
A FAB & COMFY LODGING EXPERIENCE
I recently stayed at the Westgate Hotel with my friend Romy of RomyRaves.com. She is a Midlife influencer and lifestyle expert with amazing brand contracts, awesome connections and she always gets invited to fun experiences, which is how we ended up staying at the fabulous, tropical, purple-themed Bahamas Suite at the Westgate!
Our suite was one of several themed suites at the hotel and it was so spacious, it felt much bigger than most apartments and condos I’ve visited lately. It had a fun purple vibe throughout the unit which made it particularly agreeable to my preference for the color purple (it’s my all-time favorite color) and perfectly adequate for a mini photo sesh:
This suite features a large living room area, a dining area with a view of the golf course, a bar area with a pool table, two bathrooms and a King suite.
Entertainment at the Westgate
One of the hotels highlights? Barry Manilow’s show. Even if you’re like me and only know a single Barry Manilow song (Copacabana), you’ll be surprised at how fun his show is.
Barry Manilow is a Vegas icon at this point. Although most folks in the audience were older, there were also young crowds excited to witness this legendary octogenarian offer a great show the old Vegas way: playing his piano, accompanied by a live band, back-up singers and dancers, frequent outfit changes, storytelling and showing videos highlighting some of his biggest career highlights. Ultimately, a giant bridge came down from the ceiling (along with loads of string confetti) and Barry walked up and down the stairs to get closer to the audience as a final farewell, while singing! It’s an upbeat, old Vegas charm kind of night that’s full of nostalgia and good vibes (even if you don’t know most songs).
Barry Manilow during his final song of the show! His purple blazer with fringe sleeves was so fun.
A thoughtful and very unique Barry Manilow gift from Westgate’s PR team.
Dinner at the Westgate
After the Barry Manilow show, we went for dinner at the hotel’s signature EDGE steakhouse. We enjoyed martinis and a perfectly cooked Wagyu Strip Loin steak from Australia’s Stone Axe Farm—so tender and juicy it practically melted the moment it touched the palate.
We also had some accompaniments including a Jumbo Lump Crab Cake with avocado aioli, lemon crème fraiche, cucumber and citrus as well as their amazing Yellowtail crudo. Of course the martinis were spectacular and deserve a picture since our server was funny, kind and very accommodating:
SPA, SHOPPING &
THE VELVET BAR
What makes The Westgate especially fun for women in their 40s and beyond is the balance of energy and ease—plenty of excitement, but with room to relax, recharge, and enjoy some grown-up glamour. The hotel’s exterior might not be the most modern or fancy-looking façade but once you step inside you’re realizing it’s not an establishment that feels pretentious. The hotel’s Serenity Spa, where Romy and I were treated to a wonderful massage offers saunas, jacuzzis and plenty of beauty treatments for women who want to relax and get pampered.
For high rollers that want to shop Chanel purses, Louis Vuitton suitcases and fine jewelry, there’s a luxury boutique next to the Diamond Check-In office. For the rest of us, there are fun clothing and accessory shops in a mini-mall type of hallway.
However, my favorite spot to sit down, relax and enjoy a quality drink was at the hotel’s Velvet Lounge where we indulged in delicious alcoholic beverages prepared by one of Vegas top bartenders (as featured in Las Vegas Magazine) the lovely mixologist Yelena Anter:
Yelena prepared two delicious beverages. I’ll just say my martini was one of the best I’ve ever had and it came with an edible hundred-dollar bill!
All this to say, Friends, whether it’s a weekend escape or a mid-week splurge, The Westgate proves that Vegas adventures don’t have to cost an arm and a leg, and most importantly, Vegas adventures don’t have an age limit.
Thank you Romy for this fun invite and thank you Westgate Hotel for your hospitality and for making us feel so welcome!
Thanks for reading, friends!
